Known as Civil Asset Forfeiture is a law that allows law enforcement to seize assets such as property and money from anyone that is suspected of involvement of a crime without actually charging the person of any wrongdoing.
Now the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be using a new device called an ERAD machine, which stands for The Electronic Recovery and Access to Data Machine. This device will allow the OHP to scan your bank cards and seize the money if they suspect if you or the money is involved in a crime. The thing is, you don't have to be charged with a crime for this to happen.
They basically can take your money until you prove you obtained it legally.
In an interview with the Local News 9 Station, Lt. John Vincent of the OHP said, "If you can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be given back to you. And we've done that in the past."
The Local News 9 Station also obtained a copy of the contract between the ERAD Group and the State of Oklahoma which shows the state paying $5,000 for the the devices and software, and receiving 7.7% of all the cash the highway patrol seizes.
You most likely will start seeing this in more states as this rolls out. Watch the news clip below and share this with your friends on Facebook. We need to Show The Sheeple!
